DVJ-2 is here!

I am rolling out another navigation method. I’m calling it DVJ-2 because it also allows jumping directly to any verse in the Bible using a different technique from the current Direct Verse Jump method.  The great news is that it is in addition to the existing navigation methods, so you will not lose anything by upgrading.

As always, the customers receive upgrades for free. Just send me an email to osnova@gmail.com indicating which Bible version you want to upgrade. If you have previously sent me the proof-of-purchase copy of the Osnova Bible, then you need not send it again.  If not, then please attach to your email the OSNOVA Bible file that you’ve bought.

If you know DVJ, then DVJ-2 is a piece of cake. While reading your OSNOVA Bible, press Menu, then press Index and type the typical DVJ abbreviation for the passage you want but instead of periods use spaces (for example “jn 3 16”).

More detailed instructions are available at this link.

Does this include the Matthew Henry Commentaries?

The DVJ-2 works great with the Matthew Henry commentary and it doesn’t seem to have the searching problem that the Kindle 3 has. Great work!

I’m trying to understand the difference. So, by using DVJ-2, you will go directly to the verse rather than to a list of search results… is that right?

Also, will upgrading mean losing notes and highlights?

I am referring to the Net Bible.

The DVJ-2 method works fine, but when I try to use DVJ, I get the message

Your search cannot be completed as this item has not been indexed. Please try again later.

How do I get it indexed? Thanks.

    • How long have you had the NET Bible on your Kindle? If just a couple of days, then do not be alarmed if you try to use the DVJ and a window pops up saying “Your search can not be completed as this item has not yet been indexed. Please try again later.” Amazon should have come up with a better explanation in that window but you need to do exactly what it says. Wait and try later. As explained in the product description, “as any Kindle book, the KJV Bible is searchable; however, when you first install the file please wait for the Kindle to index the whole Bible (most of the time about 10 minutes; however, sometimes up to 8-10 hours). The file is large and it takes a long time to index. For this reason, the DVJ navigation method will be available only after the book has been indexed.” Indexing is done automatically by the Kindle in the background and it happens only once for each book.

Like the looks of the Bible so far, but haven’t got everything figured out yet. Is there somewhere that you have the books of the Bible abbreviations that you use? Also I’m not sure if I have the latest update, or how to up date. I ordered your Kindle Bible (KJV) (best navigation with Direct Verse Jump; verse per line) on Dec. 7, 2010…and just got my Kindle 3 around that time too. So I still haven’t figured out all of the different modes yet on it.

I would appreciate if you could maybe send me some links on how to run the Bible better…since I’d love to take it to Bible Study & church. Or anything else you think might be helpful. God Bless you in your endevors…it is much appreciated!

I just bought the Douay-Rheims Bible for Kindle (I’m using a Kindle 3G). The DVJ works unless you want to jump to the beginning of any book in the New Testament using the method described. E.g. jn.1 will send me to Numbers 19…so will mk.1, mt.1 and so forth through the NT. Am I missing something here? Thanks.

  7. Could you do a test for me? What happens when you change the font size? Does the issue go away at least with some font sizes? In addition, when you search for jn.1 and press enter once (not twice), what does it show? Does it show the correct search result? Then if you press on the destination, does it lead you to the wrong destination?

If the answers are yes to the questions above, it’s a problem that I can’t fix, only Amazon can. It’s a software bug with Kindle 3 (Kindles 2 and DX are not affected). I even don’t know why some searches are affected and why this is somehow connected to the font size. Please send a complaint to Amazon support (I have done so several times and so far they haven’t fixed it). The good thing is that DVJ-2 is not susceptible to this bug. To access/use DVJ-2 please read http://osnova.com/2010/12/06/dvj-2-is-here/

If you don’t have DVJ-2 send me an email and I will send you a updated copy for free.

You can also change the font size and the issue may go away (at least with some font sizes).

I am trying diligently to learn to use the direct jump method to use the Kindle Bible in Church. NOTHING seems to work for me but to look up Scripture in Hard Back Bible. The OSNOVA Bible was recommended to me by an Amazon Rep. who said it would be easy to jump from Scripture to Scriptures as my Pastor calls them. I don’t think I’m dumb but I can’t grasp how to jump from Scripture to Scripture. I can’t even go from Book to Book or chapture to chapture. I don’t know how to prove to you I purchased the Osnova Bible for Kindle from Amazon, they don’t send receipts, just put on Kindle. I am requesting any assistance you can provide to help me navagate the Osnova Bible. Please send me the DJV-2 if it will help me. Thank you.
